FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If you don’t see your question below, feel free to contact us. We love answering your questions!SUPER POT INFORMATION
Typically, we expect them to last between 3-5 years. It depends on how much direct sunlight they receive, how you store/cleans them, and how you grow in them. Often, they will last longer than that! We recommend washing your superpots in between cycles if you use a lot of nutrients and amendments.
Our fabric is a nonwoven geotextile polypropylene made especially for us from a manufacturer in the INDIA. It is military grade UV-resistant, chemically stable, and BPA free! It resists breakdown and rot and won’t leach any chemicals into your media. Plus, you can just throw it in the washing machine!
Our material is chemically stable, inert, and BPA-free, and therefore safe. It will not leach anything into the soil or the environment.
While the material we use is not recyclable, we strive to help by making our products last as long as possible. If fewer need purchased, fewer end up in the trash.
Because the fabric is breathable, the water escapes out of any part of the bottom and lower sides of the pot. Fabric planters do drain faster than hard-sided planters, and you may need to water more often.
We recommend trays if you are worried about the surface the pots/beds are on, or worried about the runoff.
Our products are not biodegradable. Our current pots and beds are intended to be very long-lasting above ground containers. We would love to have a new line of biodegradable pots in the future, so stay tuned.
You can bury our pots, but they will not deteriorate. This type of geotexile fabric was originally created for plumbing use. Being underground will not negatively affect anything.
The short answer? Quality. We have taken the time to research the materials used by our competition and have chosen to use a far superior fabric that is made specifically for us in the INDIA. Then we sew our pots in Delhi for lasting quality. The majority of the fabric pots on the market are made cheaply in China and do not last. We sew our bottom seams on the outside to help them last longer, and most of our pots and beds have a triple hem along the top for extra strength. (Classic and Shorty pots 30gal and up are triple-hemmed, raised beds are all triple-hemmed)
Yes, our aeration container fabric pots help to prevent root circling like you might see in a plastic pot. When the roots grow to the side of the pot, they hit air. That causes the plant to divert the growth to new root fibers instead of the same one, allowing for a more dense and fibrous root ball. Air pruning is a term often used for this effect.
Traditional hard plastic pots easily cause the plant to become root bound, leading to a whole host of problems such as root rot, disease, and pests. Our fabric breathes and allows the roots to grow outwards in a natural pattern, staving off bad molds and fungi that would take over a root bound plant and possibly cause death. We can get pretty passionate about this. If you have more questions, feel free to contact us. Read more about why fabric pots are healthy for your plants.
Our strong fabric can sometimes act as a barrier to pests or animals, but we suggest taking other measures to protect your plants.
We’ve taken 2 inches off our standard 4×4 and 4×8 raised beds so they can fit into a 4×4 or 4×8 tray.
- 4×4 = 46″ x 46″ x 18″
- 4×8 = 46″ x 94″ x 18″
We didn’t change our standard 4×16 bed because we find that tray size uncommon.
USING FABRIC POTS
When not in use, store your Superpots indoors to prevent the elements from weakening the fabric. To wash, hose down the pots to get rid of most of the soil and plant matter. Then the machine washes cold with a small amount of bleach. DO NOT DRY. Here is more info on how to wash your fabric pots.
Great question! We’ve built a chart of cubic feet and cubic yards of volume to help you choose how much soil or medium to purchase for each size of Grassroots Fabric Pots.
As you know, different plant types require a different soil mix. We wrote this to help you choose a soil.
The answer to this can depend on your growing style. However, since our fabric pots allow for more air circulation, more watering will likely be needed.
Why yes! For any reason you have to move your plant, our pots are lightweight and designed to be free to pick up and move to a new location. We recommend doing so before a watering so the pot is at its lightest.
It is a personal preference. Our pots are not designed for this, but if it happens and is not a problem for you, it WILL benefit the plant by adding a new area for your roots to explore.
